For The Love Of Fast Cars

For the Love of Fast Cars

For the Love of Fast Cars

To each their own. It’s a saying that speaks volumes. From across the room you can hear someone whisper it. It serves purpose to not having to understand another opinion, another lifestyle, or another family. You accept without question. Because to someone else: it’s completely natural. To race fans, it’s exactly that.

Every single person in the world is different, but we do share similar genes. All of them are heretic: some are musical, some are athletic, and some are talent of color, math, word, design, or dream. Some contain octane.

The need for speed can lay dormant in some people for years. Then one day you hear those most famous words of motorsports, and you feel that horsepower come alive. And it’s so loud that it overtakes you, it shakes you, and something inside within you awakes you. Like you have been dreaming of your life, and then wake up into a world of racing. It’s part of your genetic make up. It’s the racing gene. The gene is not sexist, racial, or regional. It’s just amazing.

Racing is so much more then just Fast Cars, but what two cooler words would there be to describe it? Fast Cars.

Granted, it’s not for everybody. Some people just don’t understand it. Some people could careless about horsepower, track bars, and chassis. Some people don’t like Fast Cars. Some people don’t have the gene. For the people that do have it, it’s our own thing. And to each their own, indeed!

Speed is what flows through the collective racing fans heart. It’s what separates us from the rest of the world. It is an exclusive club. Membership is on the rise, and future generations will be grandfathered in. On any given day, anywhere in the world, initiations are taking place. It starts with a sparkle in the eye, and is kicked off with the ceremonial right of passage. Let’s Go Racing!

    Halloween Ghost

    Owwww, SCARY!

    BOO!!!!

Where's Rob? Well, I guess the easy answer is around. I've been crazy busy, and getting into my stride. I started a new job. (I guess, you can't call it new any more. Wireless networking) We have a new member in the band, and have been chipping away at getting him up to speed. Still spending my free hours with Nik and the family, and things are going good with them. And I am also writing a NASCAR column, believe it or not.

I've neglected this blog for quite some time, but I guess I haven't really stopped blogging. In order to sharpen my chops with the NASCAR pen, I opened a Sports Blog, and have digging away on that now and then. All NASCAR, all the time! With the season winding down, I'm getting busy. It is also a busy time at work as well, and I have been putting in long hours. (That is till they cut me off.)

Things are really rolling for me right now, and I hope to take this speed into next year. I also hope to spend some more time here on this blog to get back into my MSN groove. I hope to be back and spinning here in the next few weeks.

    Happy Halloween, You Freaks!

    Hot, Hot, Heat

    Crazy Hot Outside

    Something Has Got to Give!

The sun is setting on one of the hottest day in 11 years in my parts of the world. The heat has been insane! And I think I am slowly going crazy! With gas prices going up, energy use is at an all time high, and temps reaching clearly into the 100 degree range, something has got to give.

If it doesn't get any better, you may find me giving up on the outside world, and spending the rest of the summer months inside. I can't take it anymore. My dog can't take it anymore. Can you take it anymore? If this keeps up, you may see me back in the blog world sooner then expected. Hope everyone is keeping cool this summer!

    Light Fuse, Get Away!

    Happy 4th of July

A month passes by pretty quick. I feel like I have not been here for ages. I hope everyone has had a great summer so far. Mine has been really busy, and I don't see it letting up anytime soon. Nikki's father has started chemo, and seems to be dealing with it pretty good so far. Some out of town relatives of hers came in for the 4th, so more family time fills our schedule. Still making and helping with adjustments. Life is too short. Everything seems different to me.

The band has been looking for a new bass player. We have been turning down shows, and I really don't see us getting a chance to play live at all this summer. A huge downer for all of us! But the show goes on, and we are debating on recording without a true bass player, with the rest of us recording the bass parts ourselves. Instead of thinking that it is holding us back, we are trying to look at it as just a step back. We are still practicing, and making the best of it.

With no real time to devote to even summer activities, I have found it hard to sit in front of a computer. I am going to make an effort to be around next week. I have some maintence I need to do here on this blog, and look forward to checking in on a few blogs as well.

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July, and that our Canadian cousins had a great celebration on the first of the month. (I know I partied like a Canadian!) Be safe! Light Fuse - Get Away!

Have a safe 4th of July!

    Memorial Day

    In Memory Of

I would like to give thanks, and remember all those that have served our country on this Memorial Day. Both my father and grandfather have served, and thankfully they lived through times of conflict. Some are not as fortunate, and my thoughts are with their families today. Happy Memorial Day to everyone.

We have had some crazy nice weather around these parts of the world, (even a little too hot,) but it has begun to feel like summer. Family is my priority right now, and in the next few weeks I am crazy busy. So the down time will not be spent in front of a computer. I believe that The Music In My Head may be on a bit of a break. Lust For Life is not. I do have another Oak Island entry, and I will publish it sometime soon. Other than that, I will be back once I have had enough time in the sun. PEACE!

    Birthday Blog

    My Rig

    Birthday Blues

It's about that time to turn another year older. Since I started my blog on my birthday weekend last year, Lust For Life makes the turn with me. My celebration ritual remains the same. Girl, Food, Booze, Dogs, Guitars, Drums, Friends, and Family. Give me reverb, and give me room. Kind of tough timing, with the news of Nikki's father. So I spend it with a heavy heart. But things are starting to look alot clearer around me, and I have vision for a fruitfull year. Life is music to me, and I plan on playing my tune loud and live. Sometimes you play the blues, but it beats not playing at all. Lust for Life, indeed!

    Late Night Belongs to Conan

    Hail: Conan!

I'll just say this once: He will go down as one of the greatest entertainers of our time. The guy cracks me up! When it comes to late night talk show host's, not too many come close to Conan O'Brien. Some may disagree. I would have to admit that Johnny Carson was the best, but the day he stepped down, Conan stepped up. Now it's only a matter of a few years before Conan takes over for Jay Leno on the Tonight Show. It's a huge honor, and I believe that Carson would be proud. To me, it's only natural. Late night belongs to Conan O'Brien.

Who is your favorite late night talk show host?

    Mothers Day, Fathers Way

    Full Moon Weekend

A much needed Happy Mothers Day to all Mothers! It was a strange weekend for myself and the people close to me. Friday, Nikki's dad, I call him Colonel, was not feeling very well. Nikki was fast on her feet, (flashes of the story of my uncle, reminded her,) and brought her father to the hospital. Turns out he is anemic, (to the point that he didn't have enough blood for his heart. If he had not gone to the hospital, he could have died.) and it is necessary for him to stay in the hospital till sometime next week. (Note to self, if you have to go to the hospital, try for a Monday. The A-Team has the weekend off.) It was terribly scary for all of us, and made for not a very Happy Mothers Day weekend. But the news is he is feeling much better, and we hope that he is going to be just fine. Saturday night they let him watch Nascar.

I get a lot of noise about my interest in Nascar. Not too many understand my fascination with the motorsport. My family does. To us, it's simple. It is family. As a child I would sit and watch the races with my uncle. (Same one Nikki was thinking about.) I loved hearing about car's, driver's, and the history behind the race tracks. He was bit of a gambler, and it was only a few years ago that I realized he had money on most races we watched. His own kids didn't show very much interest, so I became flooded with Nascar gifts. (I even have a childhood picture of myself in an Amoco jumpsuit.) After he passed away, my interest fallowed with him. Today, my grandmother loves to hear me talking Nascar. Happy Mothers Day, Nana!

Again, it's simple. Nikki's father has loved the sport for ages, and I love his daughter. It didn't take me long to become close friends with her father, and Nascar racing has made it easier then ever. He is my silent partner within my money league, and has truly become a buddy of mine through the weekly races. (Trust me, I am sure the nurses had no idea what his interest was in the race, when they let him watch Saturday night.) He calls me all the time, and I think that's the tops. "No Colonel, I have not talked to your daughter today, I am not sure where she is. But how about our driver this week, what do you think?" It's only a problem when I am talking to him, and Nikki calls on the other line. What exactly does a gentleman do? "It's you daughter on the other line." "Do you have to go?" "I don't know!" Nikki went to see him at the hospital today. One of the first things he said was, "Tell Rob, we will get them next week." (After Kasey's poor showing.) Yes, my friend, we will get them for many more weeks to come!

*Did you know? Nascar will never hold a race on Mothers Day. It's a dangerous sport, sometimes resulting in death. The league has too much respect to put any mother through the raceday emotions on a day designed for her. In years past, they had this whole weekend off. But for now they will race the night before at Darlington. Saturday night, most of the driver's mom's announced those most famous words in motorsports. "Gentleman, start your engines!" I could have sworn I heard one of them mention to make sure their seatbelts were fastened too. Thanks MOM!

    Driving to Darlington

    NASCAR Driver: Kasey Kahne #9

    Giddy-up, Kasey Kahne!

Alright, let's get the ship back sailing straight, and keep it in one piece. Your over your sophomore slump, leave last year behind. Leave last week, and Richmond's garage behind also. You have raced three times on the Lady in Black in your previous two years, and did well in all of them. 2006 has been good to you! You got a win in Texas, and you got a win in Atlanta. Both off the pole, mind you. You slipped to 7th in the standings after a tough two weeks, so what? Your still a top ten driver, and are quickly becoming a huge fan favorite. Count me in bro, just do me a few favors this week when we race in Darlington.

    #9 Dodge Charger, Evernham Motorsports

    1. Let's qualify with pole-position. You have won pole two out of three times racing in Darlington in the last two years. And both your wins this year came from starting the race from the front. It makes sense to me.

    2. Let's make sure your spark plugs are connected before we lock it away after qualifying. That way, we won't have to roll it all the way to the garage only to find that it was a stupid mistake, and you don't have to lose 5 laps on the rest of the boys, like you did last week in Richmond.

    3. Keep the car away from walls, and anyone with the last name of Busch. Your cars are always fast when they maintain in one piece. You have had just as good of car, if not better car then most of the field all year. Plus, your paint job is chill, people like the way your car looks.

    4. Race your race. You're a good driver. Don't forget the Darlington track motto, 'Too Tough to Tame.'

    5. Pit after ever caution more then 40 laps. Or whatever. So many people talk about pit strategy. I don't get it. Pit when everyone else pits. New tires, more gas, more time for adjustments, it's all good.

    6. Win the race. Be in position by 50 laps left, make your moves, block and run. Cake!

You're also racing the Busch series on Friday night. Gold! More time on the track. You can bet I will be watching. (Ok, bet's the wrong word while talking about the Busch series. Since I don't have money on it, it is so much less stressful.) But the money is on Saturday night under the lights with the Nextel Cup. Kasey, Giddy-Up! Just be the best, and don't come home without at least a top ten. A victory would make you my bff, and I would kick you some of the money I would gain from the benefits. Anything less, and your not making my top driver list in my next years line-up. Let's go racing!

    Kasey Kahne Results from Darlington

TextOnMouseOverI'm only racing Kasey for my team once this year, and that is this weekend on May 13th. I want to make him a top driver for me next year, but he has to be good to me here. I will post results after the race is in the history books.

Driver Car Vegas Odds Start Laps Lead +/- Finish
    Kasey Kahne #9 6-1 1st 41 -20 21st

*Update for Friday = Kasey just won pole position for Saturday nights race. Cha-Ching!

*Update for Saturday afternoon = Odd makers in Vegas change Kasey's line from 10-1 to 6-1 for raceday.

*Update after the race = Kasey had nothing on the Lady in Black. Pole Position, along with a first place pit placement didn't help his tight car. The first 100 laps he stayed where we needed to be, but his car went down hill from that point on. Easily getting passed in and out of the turns. That's racing. It's going to be tough for him to come back from a disappointing May, and to make my top drivers next year. Tough luck, tough racing.

    * This really put's my money in a downward spiral. My season has lost much momentum with two weeks of deep hit's. These next three weeks will decide my destiny. It start's with Junior in North Carolina.

    Stock Options

    Your Band Here

Would you buy stock in your favorite band?

I have run across this three seperate times in the past year or so, and I would like to hear a few of your opinions. I have read about some small local bands, (I believe they were all from the UK,) that were having a hard time raising money to fund a future album. They started asking for money from friends and fans to help out. In return they all received partial ownership of the band, or stock in the band. Depending on how the album sold, or any future success of the band would determine the value of your stock. You are able to sell your stocks back to the band at any time, after a certain window of time that the band would be using the money.

It sounds crazy to me, and I don't ever see any reason for my band to sell partial ownership away. But the more I have thought about it, the more it made for an interesting social experiment. What if they were your favorite band? What if you had a great ear for music talent, and were convinced they would hit it big? This would get you in on the ground floor with a band, maybe get a personal thanks in the albums liner notes, and you would never have to lift an instrument or help haul any of the gear. You could potentially profit from your interest in them, so it would only be natural to help spread a good word, and spark more interest in the band. And it would also solve the age long debate of who was the bigger fan, or who discovered them first. Your portfolio would prove it! What do you think?

The bands stock just went up.

    The Kentucky Derby Cup

It's time to dawn the hats, sip the mint julep's, and go racing. This years Triple Crown starts this weekend with the sport of kings. The Kentucky Derby is history in the making. The Kentucky Derby is class. And the Kentucky Derby sports the greatest athletes in the world. The true stars are these breathtaking 3 year old thoroughbreds. Don't think for one second that these horses are not treated like kings. Most of them live better lives then you and I. And they love to run. Run For The Roses!

    Oak Island II

The sign leading to Oak Island

(Picture courtesy from Joanna at Oak Island Treasure.)

Oak Island II: The Mystery of the History Read Part 1 of my Oak Island story.

With the knowledge of the water traps, the imagination of a buried secret grew. Countless companies were made, and countless digging fallowed. Several more shafts were made in hopes of bypassing the water trap, and burrowing horizontally into the original pit. During one of the many digs, the first death was reported. (A ruptured boiler had scalded a man to death.) Most, if not all, of the new shafts suffered the same flooding fate. It is believed that one of the new shafts had reached within 18 feet of the original money pit. As the water came, they began the biggest bailing attempt up to that point in time. It was at this time that a load noise was heard, and the original pit had collapsed. Some have believed that this also was a trap, and the original chest had now fallen into a deeper void under the island.

Many fortunes have been lost due to expenses of Oak Island, but one of the most note worthy started in 1895. Bringing us into the modern day history of the treasure hunt, we begin with Blair, who invested his life savings and inheritance on the adventure. The Oak Island Treasure Company had been formed, and all of the digging history was passed onto them. I believe that it was around this time that maybe some of the worst mistakes were made. They became apparently convinced of the location of the tunnel, that was bringing the water from Smith's Cove to work area, and made the decision to try and cut it off. They proceeded to dynamite around the area in hopes of successfully stop the flooding. It didn't work, and they probably caused more damage then anything. They also began boring at much smaller diameters, with drill bits, and started collecting everything they had dug into. Most all samples were investigated, and chemical analysis had found that some of it was not natural, and resembled concrete. Among other samples collected, a small piece of cloth believed to be recovered, with the initials of (ri) or (vi) was deciphered. (It was at this time when another man, while being pulled out of a shaft with a pulley system, slipped and fell to his death.) The new discoveries led to countless more shafts, with the belief that the more shafts that were dug, the more likely they would recover something. The company quickly ran out of funds, and the islands landscape was forever changed.

Most maps, and original locations of shafts were useless, but that didn't stop more treasure seekers from migrating to Nova Scotia. Amongst them, was none only Franklin D. Roosevelt, future president. Although his work on the island was limited, he was believed to keep a close eye and all the developments of the site.

With new technology, crews brought a power dredge, air pressure secure tubes, even diving suits, but none of them brought any success. It was around 1928, (a newspaper article sparked more interest, and another business man named Hedden began his quest,) when electricity was brought to the island, and a strong water pump would work around the clock in some of the new shafts being dug. The believed they were digging at the original site of the money pit, but after reaching 155 feet, they concluded that the ground had shifted severely after countless shafts had collapsed.

It was around this time that a small boulder was found near the original sit of the money pit, with a hole drilled 2 inches deep. Awhile before, a matching bolder was found quite a bit away from the pit, but was overlooked because of the distance away from the work area. These rocks were quickly surveyed from their original locations, and the measurement had surprisingly similarities of a map drawn by the pirate, Captain Kidd of Skeleton Island. The map, believed to be made in 1669. Although the years had changed the landscape of the island, the overall map seemed strikingly familiar to Oak Island.

Map written by Pirate Captain William Kidd.

(Picture is from The Oak Island Enigma, published in 1953.)

    * Part 3 will be posted in the next two weeks. Fallowing the end of my story, I will publish an additional entry focusing on theories of this true story of Oak Island.

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

    When it rains, it pours

    Blame it on the Rain!

They say April showers bring May flowers. If that's true, it better be beautiful this week. Got washed out of any outdoor weekend plans, because it has been raining for the last three days. Friday evening found me fooling some Spanish guitar at one of our local jamming spots. Saturday, gave me a chance to catch-up on some reading, fallowed by a late night rum meeting of the minds. I awoke Sunday morning in hopes of Raceday, but only found disappointment, when Nascar was feeling the rain as well. (Still plenty of sports though, to fill my rainy day Sunday.) They rescheduled for Monday, so I'm trying to reschedule myself to get a chance to watch them race the biggest track in Nascar. Monday evening, I'm back to the jam spot for a practice with the band. Tuesday, there is rumors of the sun. What happened to my weekend?

    April 27

    Pearl Jamming

    Pearl Jamming

Very few bands can say that they survived the 20th century, and very few of them can say they did it as well as Pearl Jam. It makes you wonder what may have never been, if Andy Wood had survived with them. Mother Love Bone was already signed to a major record label. Big money, big band, and big expectations. Big bite of the apple, by a star with a huge appetite to shine. Enter Vedder, and Mockie Blaylock was born, or Grandma Pearl made a jam, or whatever. The rest is history.

Your probably wondering where they have been hiding for all these years. Some may believe they were last seen seated next to ticket-disaster execs at the Grammy's? The truth is, they were still working on the, (5 against 1,) plot to destroy-all-the-impurities-in-the-world-through-music-rock-band--------> thing. Maybe some of the big shots, that the band has gone toe-to-toe with over the years, would like to make you think they haven't made a great album since Vitalogy, but the proof is in the jam. (Pun intended. Wait, that's two.) Some of their albums have matured into some great bottles of red wine. And Eddie Vedder has looked great drinking it on stage. Their live shows are so poorly matched by anyone touring today.

Well, wonder no more. With the new self-titled album being released on May 2nd, expect to hear a lot from the band. Don't expect Seattle to come crawling back on the map, because Pearl Jam shouldn't be responsible for putting it there in the first place. But expect to see a lot from an American band. A revolution. Lead by guitar, and delivered with attitude. Marketing.

Not that great of a cover, if you ask me.

If we could only hook them up with The Black Crowes for a tour. What a night that would make?

    Rob's Dog

    Rob's dog

    Beware of Dog!

I got a hit on my site this weekend from the Yahoo image search engine. The search resulted in a picture of my dog. I thank whomever made the search for, 'Rob's Dog,' on Yahoo, because Siddhartha will get an extra walk this next week because of you!

I had to prove it for myself. I searched for, 'Rob's dog,' on Yahoo images, and amongst the beautiful dogs that came up within the first page, I saw my own, smiling in the wind. She is breath taking in my book, and I truly believe she is the most beautiful dog in the world. Very fitting for the first page search result for, 'Rob's dog.' We are best friends, drinking buddies, and each other's own personal advisers. She has taught me that Charlie Brown was right; sometimes a dog is as good as any man.

Not too long after I began to grow proud of my own dogs influence on the Yahoo engineers, did I hear yelling through my window. Someone had let their dog into my fenced backyard. As much as I am proud of how smart my dog is, I am also not proud of her alpha complex. She is extremely territorial, and does not give warning. Although this may make for a great watchdog, it doesn't help for keeping friends that think they have grown alias within my pack. Both dogs were fine, and I am very thankful for that. (With the help of my experience in controlling, 'Sid Vicious,' off of too many pinned dogs.) But it just goes to show: one minute you may be basking in your own personal accomplishments, and the next you are in the middle of a dogfight.

Obsessive Oak Island - Part I

Oak Island, in Canada, Nova Scotia

    Oak Island

(Image from Ed. Blundell, N. & Hall, A. 'Marvels and Mysteries of the Unexplained' (1989) St. Michael P.33
An aerial photo of the island. The Money Pit is situated in the clearing in the foreground.)

Maybe it's the idea of the hidden fortune, rumors of pirate treasure, an adventure of the likes of Indiana Jones, or the mysterious history that surrounds all of it. Or, maybe it's just the best kept joke in history. Whatever it is, I have grown obsessed with the never ending true story of Oak Island.

About two years ago, I came across an article about the money pit. An island off of Nova Scotia, not more then a mile, by a mile and a half in size. A small island, but the story, and everyone's imagination have grown larger then life. A story that flirts with hidden treasure, ancient stone tablets depicting a map, pirate legend- Captain William Kidd, the Knights of Templar, booby traps, millions of dollars spent, even the Holy Grail, and of course, death. Facts are few and far-fetched, but a few things seem clear to this day. The pits, tunnels, traps, and maybe even a beach on the island are man made, and no treasure has been recovered still to this day. It all started back in the summer of 1795.

Daniel McGinnis, may have heard the stories that the island was haunted. The natives reported strange lights, and fires seen from the mainland. Whatever it was, one afternoon he decided to take a canoe over to the island to explore. What he found is where our story begins. A clearing within the thick wooded area, (the island was named for it had been covered by oak trees,) and a 13 foot wide depression in the earth. There was a tree branch over hanging, at which held a rope and an old tackle block dangling over the rounded bowl.  A clear sign that this was the work of man.

He returned to the island soon after, with a couple of friends and some pick axe's and shovels, and began to dig. Within two feet they discovered carefully laid flagstone. (no flagstone was ever found in the region, and they had figured it was shipped in by man.) They continued and found that they were digging a refilled shaft, with evidence of pick ax marks around the sides. They grew excited at the possibility of some unclaimed treasure. Waters surrounding the area were known to be used by pirates. The evidence of a man made structure assured them of some reward for their work. At ten feet, they came across wood, and expected it to be a treasure chest. What they found it to be was a wooden platform, with only more dirt under the wooden planks. They kept digging till they reached 25 feet, and surrendered to the fact they would not be able to keep working without some help. It would be years before anyone would have the financial backing to make a better attempt.

My attempt at what the pit looks like.

Around 1805, with the help of a local businessman, the boys returned to continue their quest. After digging around 30 feet they found another wood platform, with nothing underneath. They continued to find that every ten foot interval there was wooden platforms, with nothing under them. Around 80 or 90 feet, (according to the legend,) they found a stone plate with ancient writing. Although to this day that stone is lost, and some have grown to believe it is a myth. (Stories that it was used as a decorative back to a fireplace.) Some have imagined it to be a warning. The symbols were hard to make out, and the language unknown, but it was believed to be translated as, 'in 40 feet 2 million pounds.'

A few more feet down, the ground had begun to grow muddy and soft. The crew starting poking into the soft land and hit something about the same width as the shaft. Excited, but with the hour growing late and poor light to work, they retired till the next work day. When they returned to the shaft by morning, they were surprised to find that the pit was completely flooded. They tried their best to bail the water, but it kept coming back. The crew had to give up. They were limited by technology of the time.

Around 1850, another crew came to the site with drills, and more money to invest in the adventure. The drilling had unearthed more wood, clay, and then hit a pocket, where it fell over a foot and a half. When they carefully removed the drill bit, a rumor of a few small links of gold chain were found. But the water kept filling, making it impossible to retrieve anything from the lengths they had drilled to. They had come to the conclusion that whomever built the pit, had worked extremely hard at it, and whatever secret it may hold was going to be a big one. How hard they worked at hiding it, was going to be the real question.

It was at this time that they decided to dig an additional shaft adjacent to the original. (Now known as the money pit for all the money they were spending on the operation.) They had planned to dig to the depth of the original pit, avoiding the water, then tunnel horizontal to where they believed the treasure to be sitting. This new pit also suffered flooding at around the same depth as the first. They believed the water was coming from natural springs, but after one worker fell into the pit, he noticed that the water was in fact salt water from the ocean.

Surveying the land around the island, they had taken note of a beach about 500 feet from the pit. (Smith's Cove) It had taken them years to discover that the original clay of the beach had been dug away, and that beach stones, layers of eel grass, and two inches of fibers from coconuts lay in it's place of the bed of the beach. It was a draining system to keep dirt from stopping the water flow into the ground. Under those layers they found 5 box drains leading to small water tunnels under the island. They concluded that it must meet somewhere beneath the island, and connected some how with the pit. As the tides rose, the water would fill these boxes and dispense the water to the tunnels, and lead them to where they were working. An impressive trap, that they must have triggered years ago.

*The story continues into the modern era. I will continue writing as I have the time. Take note that the story is true, but most sceptics have qustioned some of the details. A huge thanks to Joanna, for being so kind to me, and for giving me permission to use some of these photos. She runs the amazing website, Oak Island Treasure.

    Easter Eggs and Tall Tales

    Sunrise

I had a great Easter weekend with family and friends. Good food, good times, and good stories shared through out. We talked about everything. We went from the meaning of Easter, new additions to the extended family, from politics to dogs. (Surprising similarities.) I believe it was religion, that lead to the Holy Grail, which struck up the Da Vinci Code, deviated to tall tales, in turn reminded me of the incredible story of Oak Island. (See how these things work?)

I have grown so interested with this piece of world mystery, that I have found myself researching the subject for almost two years now. It holds everything a great story should: it has adventure, mystery, myth, and wonder. It also holds the motivation to drop everything in search for the secret this island is believed to hold.

I have decided to write the story I have pieced together. To record the tale, as I know it, in hopes to share as many of the details I have collected for years to come. I stake no claim or credit, for any and all of what I will write of the story. I will be using my blog to publish my personal opinion of the tale, and use it as a tool for personal reference in the future. The story is true, but some of the facts may be incorrect. I have collected everything from too many resources to give credit to, and regret that I cannot. Over the next few weeks, I will be publishing the story of Oak Island for my own personal use, and ask that you not hold any of my words to be true, or referenced to as a reliable source. At least, it will make for a great bedtime story for my kids some day.

    Daily Da Vinci Distractions

    Ooooh, scary!

The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google

Within my quest to deviate from anything productive, I found a game to help waste my time between coffee breaks. I'm a big fan of the book, The Da Vinci Code, and I am looking forward to the movie coming out on May 19th. In cooperation with Sony Pictures, a team from Google has come up with, The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google. For the next 24 days, they will hold daily puzzles to help promote the movie, with a huge grand prize at the end. If you decide to join me in these brain twisters, leave me a comment, so we can help each other out. The quest starts today. For more information, check out The Official Google Blog.

    Spring Fling

With a nod to a Happy Easter Weekend to you all, I thought I would share my spring driving playlist. It's time for the windows down, the sun roof kickin, and the music to play. Give me guitar, give me drums, and give me room. This is; let me drive, so I can listen to my music time of the year.

    10. Summer Days - Bob Dylan - From his more recent days, off of Love & Theft. Just filled with great guitars and that old tele-tone. 'Everybody get ready, lift up your glasses and sing. Well, I'm standing on the table, I'm proposing a toast to the king.'

    9. Wild West End - Dire Straits - I cranked this song driving home in the late hours the other night, with all my windows down and sun roof open, for the first time this year. It felt so good, and this song helped feed my need for more late night summer car rides.

    8. Spring Came - The Suburbs - What a grossly over-looked band. They could put on a show that would make you believe that they were the greatest band ever from Minneapolis. Then you would think of The Replacements, and would just compliment them on a hell of a show. Turns out Beej is now running, and owns the famed Sangri-La Studio, in Malibu. If you think you know music, you think you know the history behind that famed studio.

    7. Lyla - Oasis - I don't know why I was thinking of this song, while shopping itunes last week, but I picked it up. Somewhat reminds me of a car ride from last summer. One of the best car rides of the season.

    6. Carouslelambra - Led Zeppelin - Get the Led out, turn it up, break off the volume knob, jam. When you are a hard core Zep fan, you get to fall in love with tunes like this one. Let me guess, your a huge Zep fan, but you have never heard of this song?

    5. Straight to Hell The Clash - I know it has made my lists before, but I can't get enough of it. It doesn't matter what season it is, I have to have this song. It's grown into a drinking buddy of mine.

    4. International Pop Overthrow - Material Issue - With the problems my band is having, it's perfect time for me to eat this song for lunch. Word for word. I've been addicted to this band since grade school, it would seem. It's straight pop guitar rock, but oh so well done. Just hook, after hook, after hook, hook. I'll throw some up in the media player some time soon. Kick down, so you can get down.

    3. Wordless Chorus - My Morning Jacket - My Morning Breakfast.

    2. Shapes of Things to Come - Jimmy Page & Black Crows - If you could see me throw this down in the car, you would ask me to share my medication. Get it, good, now give me some more. I would love to hear them do another tour. Come on, how could you not jump out of your seat to get a chance to work with Jimmy? This album is magic, and this song is the smoke.

    1. Three Little Birds - Bob Marley & The Legends - My favorite spring song ever.

I hope everyone is feeling the same spring. I would love to hear some of your ideas for good spring songs. So, if your leaving a comment, leave me a tune or few. Yes, I said few.
